Dylan Roberts is a proud Texan, born in Dallas and growing up in Austin, he became a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan and first learned film making at Austin Film Society. He graduated from the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville) in 2012, having majored in broadcast journalism. At the age of 18, Dylan began traveling internationally as a journalist, photographer, and editor. Through media, Dylan has been able to travel all over the world to countries including Iraq, Lebanon, Paraguay, Uganda, Gaza, Somalia and more. From these experiences, Dylan joined forces with Christian Stephen, to establish Freelance Society in 2013. Together, they worked to expose stories primarily in complex countries, such as Vicar of Baghdad. A documentary featuring a Anglican priest working inside the red zone of Baghdad Iraq, while under ISIS threat. Dylan is the CEO and manages multiple international projects and production teams simultaneously. Creating content for VICE Media, The Economist, Vocativ, The Nation, Ryot News and more.
Christian Stephen is a journalist, filmmaker and writer from London, England. Over the past 5 years he has specialized in multimedia coverage of hostile environments and conflict zones, focusing on humanitarian stories. At a young age, he traveled to Mogadishu, Somalia. In 2013, at age 18, Christian co-directed, shot, produced, and edited "The Vicar of Baghdad," Vice's award-winning feature-length documentary. In July of 2015, he traveled to Aleppo, Syria to capture the world's first ever virtual reality footage within a war zone. Linking up with Dylan Roberts, the pair started Freelance Society - a company that has created stories for multiple news outlets. Christian has covered conflicts in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Gaza, Central African Republic, Nigeria, Nepal, Turkey, India, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka, among others. He embedded in the front lines with the Islamic State in Iraq, broke news in Nepal and Gaza, and uncovered rampant child abuse in Afghanistan. Through these assignments, Christian has created multimedia stories for VICE, MSNBC, Vocativ, The Economist, RYOT News, and more. His work has been featured in 200+ international news outlets including The Associated Press, BBC, WIRED, The New York Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post, The Huffington Post, and Business Insider. As a speaker, he has been featured at the UN Foundation, the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival, and the Kaleidoscope International Film Festival.
Andrew Pennington has a background in Creative Direction and Product Design. He has built brands, advertising campaigns, as well as a myriad of apps and digital products. He graduated from the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville), having majored in visual communication design, and photography. Andrew and Dylan started working together at Arkansas where they both ran Track and Field for the Razorbacks. As an Art Director at an advertising agency in Dallas, TX, he worked with a wide range of clients, including Frito-Lay, PepsiCo, Bud Light, Disney and Walmart. His team’s work received awards, including multiple Addy’s and first place in a global art director competition. Most recently, Andrew has been the Creative Director of an agency that specializes in branding and digital product design. In charge of everything from the interfaces to the user experience, he has helped a variety of products gain users and traction within their markets. In January 2015, as head UI/UX designer for a notable fitness app, he took charge of their redesign efforts, which placed them in the #1 spot of the U.S. App Store. http://andrewpennington.design/
Simon Groneberg is a visual story teller from Stuttgart, Germany. Imaging was always a fascination, a hobby and a passion. He pursues quality and has a childish joy for working creatively. Since 2013 Simon works as Director of Photography and Social Media Manager at Freelance Society.
His experience has ranged from Communications, disaster-area documentaries, areal videography, magazine editorials, & movie productions, international TV and broadcasting formats (Channel 10 Israel, BBC UK, Canal Plus France, RYOT News) and in the professional Motorsport sphere (Aston Martin-, Audi-, Bentley-, Porsche- & VW-Factory Teams in the WEC, WRC, GT Masters & DTM Series).
Currently he is working as Head of Communications with Aston Martin Racing works driver and 2014 Le Mans winning World Champion Nicki Thiim at FIA World Endurance Championship events.
A vivacious learner, Derek has created and sold brands, produced events, and currently works in photography, film, business consulting, and freelance marketing. Derek founded Huber Media LLC in January of 2018 and helps businesses build their brands and refine their direction through a marketing strategy that clarifies communication and aligns content marketing with corporate responsibility and business goals. He obtained a B.S. in Business Management from Arkansas State University and resides in Mountain Home, Arkansas. A traveler at heart, Derek loves working with communities and chambers to promote tourism through experiential marketing. Derek has partnered with Freelance Society since November of 2017 to apply these strategies to the exciting new medium of virtual reality story-telling.
